Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has sustained a minor groin strain and is expected to miss multiple games, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday.
Davis will be evaluated daily as the Mavericks take a cautious approach with the injury. The team has been particularly careful with Davis’ health throughout the season.
The Mavericks listed Davis as questionable for Saturday’s road game against the Sacramento Kings due to right adductor soreness. He was ruled out at halftime of Thursday’s 126-116 Christmas Day loss to Golden State with right groin spasms.
Davis suffered the injury with 8:50 remaining in the second quarter against the Warriors. He pulled up after attempting to sprint to catch a pass in transition and immediately limped to the bench requesting a substitution.
The 32-year-old has dealt with multiple muscle strains since arriving in Dallas in February as the centerpiece of the Luka Doncic trade. Davis was recovering from an abdominal strain at the time of the trade.
Davis suffered an adductor strain in his Dallas debut that sidelined him for 18 games. He also missed 14 games earlier this season due to a left calf strain.
The Mavericks hold an 8-8 record with Davis in the lineup this season. Dallas is 4-12 in games without him.
Sources indicate Davis remains a significant trade target around the league despite the injury concerns. The Mavericks will continue their cautious management of his workload and health moving forward.
