Anthony Davis Trade Market Cools As Hawks, Raptors Step Back From Talks

January 23, 2026 by Real GM

The Dallas Mavericks have seen the trade market for Anthony Davis cool significantly, with the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors stepping back from serious discussions in recent days. Both teams were previously described as the most determined suitors for Davis.

Interest in Davis declined following last week’s announcement that he will miss at least six weeks due to ligament damage in his left hand. The 32-year-old is owed $58.5 million next season and holds a player option worth $62.8 million for 2027-28.

Davis has averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks in 20 games this season. His 21.6 player efficiency rating matches his production following last season’s blockbuster trade from the Los Angeles Lakers for Luka Doncic.

Dallas acquired Davis as the centerpiece of the Doncic trade but has struggled to remain competitive amid his injury issues this season.

Toronto had explored potential deals for Davis despite concerns about his extensive injury history and impending extension eligibility.

The Mavericks face a decision on whether to shut Davis down for the remainder of the season to maximize their draft position or attempt to trade him over the summer when his market might improve.

Dallas does not control its first-round pick again until 2031, making the 2026 draft particularly valuable for the franchise’s rebuilding efforts. The team is positioned to land a top selection in a loaded draft class to add to their efforts in building around Cooper Flagg.
