Best Moves Of NBA’s 2025-26 Waiver Deadline Weekend

October 20, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

With the 2025-26 season edging ever closer, all 30 NBA teams have until Monday their final training camp cuts. However, with teams having until 5pm (EST) on Oct. 18 to waive non-guaranteed players without incurring a dead money cap or tax hit, several have preemptively trimmed their roster down to 14 or 15 standard contracts. Other teams have converted players’ contracts to either a two-way or standard deal.

Here are the best moves of the 2025-26 waiver deadline weekend.

Best Moves Of NBA’s 2025-26 Waiver Deadline Weekend

Atlanta Hawks – Keaton Wallace Converted To Standard Contract

On Saturday, the Atlanta Hawks converted point guard Keaton Wallace‘s two-way contract to a standard deal, per ESPN insider Shams Charania. Though his new contract is only for one season, it’s a nice reward for a rotation-caliber lead guard with a defensive edge. A player who was also Trae Young‘s primary backup in the 2025-26 preseason.

Chicago Bulls – Signing Trentyn Flowers To Two-Way Contract

In a move that tracks with their desire to go younger, the Chicago Bulls were able to scoop up Trentyn Flowers on Friday, the team announced. The 20-year-old may have spent most of his rookie season in the G League, but he averaged 20.0 points per game while shooting 37.2% from 3.

The 6’9” swingman spent most of his rookie year as a 19-year-old and averaged 20.0 PPG and 5.1 RPG for the @sandiego_clips. Flowers had seven 25+ point games including a career-best 34 PTS vs. the… pic.twitter.com/S6ZLb97AV4

Dallas Mavericks – Converting Moussa Cisse To Two-Way Contract

The Dallas Mavericks already had quite a lot of depth at center but last season proved that they needed one more playable big man. On Saturday, they made the decision to sign Guinean shot-blocker Moussa Cisse to a two-way contract, per HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto.

Milwaukee Bucks – Keeping Amir Coffey

Amir Coffey is probably happy that Giannis Antetokounmpo only has so many brothers.

He was on the bubble of the Milwakee Bucks roster but will survive training camp (h/t Scotto). The Bucks should be pleased they kept Coffey as well, as he’s a rotation-level forward that can score and defend respectably.

Minnesota Timberwolves – Signing Johnny Juzang To Two-Way Contract

As a team that’s somewhat lacking reliable off-ball shooters on their standard 15-man roster, the Minnesota Timberwolves were wise to sign 24-year-old wing Johnny Juzang to a two-way contract (h/t Scotto).

Last season, Juzang shot 37.6% from 3 and made 118 total attempts.

Oklahoma City Thunder – Signing Chris Youngblood To Two-Way Contract

Relative to expectations, Chris Youngblood was the Oklahoma City Thunder’s most impressive player in the 2025-26 preseason, averaging 11.0 points in 20.7 minutes per game. They must have thought the same, as they’ve signed the 6-foot-4 shooting specialist to a two-way contract, per a team announcement.

Sacramento Kings – Waiving Terence Davis

Even if Russell Westbrook signed a non-guaranteed, one-year contract, the Sacramento Kings still had a logjam in the backcourt. As a result, it makes sense that they cleared room for Westbrook by waiving Terence Davis, though he may be frustrated with his unfortunate deja vu.
