The Dallas Mavericks drafted Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday night.
“I’m feeling amazing. It’s a dream come true, to be honest,” Flagg said as he was joined by his family. “I wouldn’t want to share it with anybody else.”
The 6-foot-8 Flagg will not turn 19 years old until December 21.
Flagg joins a Mavs team that went 39-43 last season. He is expected to start in a front court that features Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall and Caleb Martin.
Flagg said he was looking forward to learning from his new teammates.
“I’m excited to be a sponge, to get down there and just learn, be surrounded by Hall of Fame-caliber guys and just to be able to learn from them,” Flagg said.
After signing Kyrie Irving to a new three-year deal, Nico Harrison also confirmed that Jason Kidd would return as head coach next season.
