Daniel Gafford is widely regarded across the NBA as the most tradeable Maverick ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline, according to league sources. The center is not yet in the first year of a three-year, $54.4 million extension that runs through the 2028-29 season.
However, persistent injuries to Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II complicate Gafford’s trade status. The Mavericks’ frontcourt depth concerns add uncertainty to any potential deal involving the 27-year-old big man.
Gafford cannot become a free agent until 2029, making him an attractive asset for teams seeking long-term frontcourt stability. He is represented by Shayaun Saee and Mike George.
The center is averaging 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game this season. His production and team-friendly contract make him appealing to contending teams seeking rim protection and interior presence.
Davis has missed nine consecutive games with a left calf strain and remains sidelined for at least another week. Lively has also dealt with injury issues throughout the season, limiting the Mavericks’ ability to part with frontcourt depth.
Dallas must balance trade interest in Gafford against the risk of further depleting an injury-plagued roster. The franchise continues to evaluate its options amid a poor start before more players become trade eligible on December 15th.
