Dallas Mavericks wing Klay Thompson refuses to look back and play the “what if” game. When asked if he still would have signed with the Mavericks had he known Luka Doncic would be traded, Thompson begged off the question.
“That’s kind of a ridiculous question because I don’t own a time machine and don’t believe in going back or looking back. If I did that my whole career, I would not be where I’m at, and I wouldn’t have been able to persevere through two really hard injuries. So, I’m here in Dallas, and I enjoyed my time, and I’m looking forward to the future,” Thompson said.
Still, Thompson would reportedly like to finish his career on a title contender. The Mavs are expected to explore the trade market for the veteran shooter, who makes $16.6 million this season and $17.5 million next season.
On the year, Thompson is averaging a career-low 11.1 point per game. Thompson’s play has improved since moving to a bench role, and he’s now up to 36% on 7.8 three-point attempts per game. The veteran has now come off the bench for the most times in a single season since his rookie year with the Golden State Warriors.
