The Dallas Mavericks will be without Luka Doncic for at least Game 1 of their first-round series with the Utah Jazz. Moments ago, the team officially ruled him out for this Saturday afternoon’s game.
Doncic suffered a calf train in the Mavericks’ regular-season finale last weekend. He was initially listed as doubtful for Game 1.
Unfortunately for the Mavericks, there’s a legitimate chance that Doncic could miss an extended period of time.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Friday that “significant concerns” remain regarding Doncic’s status for Game 2.
Luka Dončić (left calf strain) is out for Game 1 against the Jazz.
Tim Hardaway Jr. (left foot surgery) and Frank Ntilikina (illness recovery) will remain out.

For now, the Mavericks will play the long game when it comes to Doncic’s injury. Head coach Jason Kidd made it clear that he doesn’t want to rush his All-Star point guard back and risk making this situation worse than it is.
“If he’s able to go and put on his shoes, then he’s going to go,” Kidd said, via Dallas Basketball. “If he can’t, we’re not going to put him in a situation to jeopardize it and make things worse.”
Of course, the Mavericks want Doncic back on the court as soon as possible. He averaged 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game this regular season.
The Mavericks should have a new update on Doncic after this weekend.
