The Dallas Mavericks have been patient since moving on from Nico Harrison. The Mavs continue to insist that they want to see their roster with better health before making any decisions on trades. However, Dallas is open to moving some of their veterans in the right deals.
The Mavericks are willing to trade big men Anthony Davis or Daniel Gafford, as well as wing Klay Thompson and guard D’Angelo Russell. Opposing teams are preparing as if the Mavericks will move forward with trading away their veteran players.
The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks are teams who could show interest if Davis is made available. Those teams could see Davis as able to elevate them as favorites to win the Eastern Conference. Dallas is also open to extending Davis, should he remain with the Mavs. Davis is eligible to sign up to a four-year, $275 million extension this coming offseason.
Thompson is known to want to play out the final years of his current contract with a contender. After a slow start, Thompson has rounded into his usual form as a perimeter threat. Thompson is owed $16.6 million this season and $17.5 million next season.
Gafford signed an extension this offseason that fits in under the extend-and-trade rules, which makes him eligible to be dealt before the trade deadline. The veteran center is under contract for $68.8 million through the 2028-29 season.
Russell signed a two-year deal with Dallas via the Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception this past offseason. He’s owed $5.7 million this year, with a $5.9 million player option for next season.
