On Monday, Dallas Mavericks big man Anthony Davis made his return after suffering an adductor injury in February. This was just his second game with the Mavericks. In the win over the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago native recorded 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting, six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a block. The Mavericks will have another chance to secure a win on Tuesday against the New York Knicks. However, Davis has already been ruled out for the contest.

Anthony Davis is out tonight. Mavericks plan was to sit him on the second night of a b2b.

P.J. Washington (left ankle sprain) questionable. Brandon Williams (lower back tightness) questionable as well.

Davis’ next opportunity to suit up will be on Thursday against the Orlando Magic.

Anthony Davis Never Considered Sitting Out for Rest of Season

Following the Mavericks’ plethora of injuries amidst a disappointing season, there were some reports that suggested Davus could sit out for the rest of the season due to his injury. However, Davis put those reports to bed after making his return against the Nets. Furthermore, the 32-year-old made it clear there was “no doubt” he would return from his injury.

“It was tough seeing these guys battling every single night. Winning close games,” Davis said. “Losing close games. Blowing teams out. Getting blown out. They are laying it on the line. For me, it was never a thought about if I was going to come back and play. Especially if I was healthy. We are undermanned. Guys are hurt. Gafford. Lively. Kyrie goes out. It was tough. Guys were leaving it on the floor. Guys laying on the floor in the locker room afterwards just gassed — to the point of exhaustion. There was no doubt I was going to come back and play. That makes you want to come out and play with these guys. Leave it on the floor and battle each and every night.

The Last Word

With just a few weeks left in the season, the Mavericks have a lot of ground to make up. They are 35-37 and own the No. 11 seed in the West. After making the NBA Finals less than a year ago, Dallas is in danger of ending the season as a Play-In team. However, there is some hope for the Mavericks. This is especially true after Davis’ return.

The Mavericks have won each of their last two games. Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings, who own the No. 9 seed, are on a three-game losing streak. The Mavericks are just 0.5 games behind them in the standings.

Dallas remains a team to monitor in the standings. While it is unlikely they will make a deep playoff run this year, they still have a lot of talent. Though Kyrie Irving will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL, the Mavericks are getting a lot of reinforcements back. It may not be too late for the Mavericks to gain momentum heading into the postseason.
