The Dallas Mavericks trading Anthony Davis is not a foregone conclusion, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line. Dallas could keep Davis beyond the trade deadline where he could have the opportunity to finally pair with Kyrie Irving.
Davis will become eligible on August 6 to sign a four-year, $275 million maximum extension. The deal would pay him $76 million in his age-37 season. Without an extension, he can become a free agent in 2027 if he declines his $62.8 million player option.
Mavs owner Patrick Dumont reportedly wants to see more from Davis to make a complete evaluation.
Dumont has also started to gather more information on potential candidates to replace Nico Harrison as general manager.
Dumont is currently comfortable with a committee approach to decision-making featuring Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd, Matt Riccardi, and Michael Finley.
