Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving is working towards a return from the torn ACL he suffered last season. When Irving plays again will be determined by when he’s ready to play, not the Mavericks record.
“That has nothing to do with it,” Dallas coach Jason Kidd said when asked if where Dallas is in the standings will factor into Irving’s return. “It’s about, for him, mentally and physically being able to play at the highest level in his mind. No one else’s.”
Kidd went on to say Irving is itching to return, but that the Mavericks won’t bring him back for he’s ready.
“He wants to play,” Kidd said of the veteran point guard. “But when you come back from an ACL, it’s a time thing. Mentally and physically, you want to be 100 percent. So for him, he’s doing both of those things at a high level. At some point, there will be a schedule.”
