Mavs Sign 7-Foot-5 Center As Training Camp Approaches

September 10, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The Dallas Mavericks may have picked up their replacement for the recently released Olivier-Maxence Prosper, coming to terms on a contract agreement with Jamarion Sharp, a 7-foot-5 center who played 29 games with their G League affiliate in 2024-25 (h/t HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto).

As the Mavericks have 15 players on standard deals, they will likely have either signed the slender shot-blocker to a two-way or Exhibit 10 contract.

Frankly, it’s more likely to be an Exhibit 10 contract that forces him to prove he deserves their final two-way slot. Nevertheless, by keeping him in their farm system, they can continue to monitor his post-college development. With that in mind, the 24-year-old averaged 6.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in 21.6 minutes per game with the Texas Legends last season. Though he wasn’t a prolific scorer, his efficiency was exemplary as he shot 62.3 percent from the field.

Sharp has also played with the Mavericks Summer League teams on two occasions, albeit sparingly. In 10 total games, he averaged 2.2 blocks per game, continuing to provide a fear factor around the rim.

What’s The Thinking Here?

The best time of the year is almost here, with training camp set to open for all teams on Sept. 24. When that day comes, the Mavericks will officially begin their next chapter.

In the trade heard around the world, Mavericks president and general manager Nico Harrison took full advantage of his permission to call shots, trading the cherished Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, the former Nike vice president is hoping that the basketball gods continue to extend him mercy, with Cooper Flagg set to carry the torch as the face of the franchise.

Under more pressure than any NBA executive, Harrison hasn’t just let the dust settle on the roster after they took Flagg with the top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford‘s contracts have been extended. Acknowledging Irving’s need to recover from a serious injury, D’Angelo Russell has been signed and Dante Exum has been re-signed. The Mavericks have even added Ryan Nembhard on a two-way contract to ensure that they insulated themselves at point guard.

However, they waived Prosper in order to make room for Exum. Though the two-year pro was a developmental project, this affected their big man depth. That’s not ideal with players like Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II on the roster, a reality that may have even been a factor in them acquiescing to Gafford’s demands. Thus, adding Sharp looks like another sensible move by a Mavericks front office that knows they’re on the hot seat.
