NBA Insider Names 3 “Strong Suitors” For Klay Thompson In Free Agency – Including Lakers

After 14 years with the Golden State Warriors, five-time All-Star Klay Thompson could be merely hours away from becoming a free agent for the first time in his career. Could the Warriors’ loss be LeBron James’ gain?

According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, there are three “strong suitors” for Thompson amid reports that he is expected to hit free agency in a matter of days. Those three teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Dallas Mavericks.

Charania outlined the litany of moves that some of the teams have made to potentially be in the running for the 34-year-old’s services. He also said that a sign-and-trade isn’t out of the question either.

“The Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers and Dallas Mavericks are expected to be among strong suitors for Thompson, according to league sources. Multiple teams with salary cap space are expected to show interest in Thompson as well. Through the Tim Hardaway Jr. salary dump, the Mavericks have already generated enough room to offer the full projected $12.9 million midlevel on the market. The Lakers have the ability to generate the same, depending on where LeBron James’ next deal lands and other business,” Charania wrote.

It’s been a hard road back for Klay Thompson ever since those back-to-back seasons he missed due to injuries. After making five straight All-Star games between 2015 and 2019, Thompson hasn’t been the same three-point marksman that he once was before the injuries.

Nevertheless, he can still play at a very high level and his veteran leadership could prove invaluable to any team trying to make a title push in 2025.

Where do you think Thompson will play next season?
