Very few people in the NBA are feeling the type of pressure Mavs GM Nico Harrison is under heading into the offseason.
After trading away Luka Doncic in the middle of his prime, less than a year after Dallas’ first Finals appearance since the Dirk Nowitzki era, the situation has been borderline untenable for Harrison in the greater Arlington area.
Not a day has gone by since the trade that Mavericks fans haven’t been chanting “Fire Nico” and apparently the visceral reaction to the move came as a surprise to the Mavs exec.
Saying, via basketball writer Tim Cato: “I did know Luka was important to the fan base. I didn’t know quite to this level.”
Uh… what?
Nico: “I did know Luka was important to the fan base. I didn’t know quite to this level.”

Mavericks fans were equally as confused on social media.
“I did know that the sun is vital to preventing the Earth from freezing over. I didn’t know quite to this level,” a user joked.
“Is this a real quote?” ESPN’s Courtney Cronin asked.
“The Dallas Mavericks are owned and managed by the biggest morons in sports,” another replied.
“Situational awareness is a skill set a lot of people don’t have including those who are in positions of power,” a fan pointed out.
“THE CITY GOT A LUKA DAY WTF DO YOU MEANNNNNNNN,” another person exclaimed.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME.”
“WHY DOES HE KEEP TALKING,” another fan asked.
“How could a GM be this disconnected from his own fan base?” another user wondered. “This is historic incompetence from Nico Harrison.”
For some reason the Mavs organization seems hellbent on inventing new ways to somehow make its decision look even worse with each passing day.
In fairness to Nico though, there probably isn’t anything he could say to make fans feel better about No. 77 playing in Los Angeles.
