Stats rundown: 3 stats from the Mavericks win over the Rockets

October 27, 2021 by Mavs Moneyball

NBA: Houston Rockets at Dallas Mavericks
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Mavericks are on a winning streak!

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Houston Rockets 116-106 for their second consecutive win. The game was perhaps closer than the Mavericks might have hoped, but the team won by double digits over the hapless Rockets anyway. Here are the stats to know.

11: Number of Jalen Brunson assists

This tied Brunson’s career high in assists. The primary concern for the Mavericks is finding a way to make plays when the ball is out of Luka Doncic’ hands. Brunson is by far the next most qualified playmaker on the team and he did a fantastic job of getting his teammates open looks tonight.

16: Number of points for Reggie Bullock

Bullock was brought in largely for his defensive prowess, but his shooting is equally important. He has largely been an afterthought in the first two games but he was a key contributor for the Mavericks tonight as he scored those 16 points in only 17 minutes. He has to get more minutes going forward.

14: Number of rebounds for Luka Doncic

Luka is one of the premier rebounding guards in the history of basketball. There has been much debate in the last couple of years regarding the importance of rebounds and their correlation with overall team success. Rebounding may not be as important as older basketball fans and coaches believed, but it does matter. Having a point guard who can rebound at this level is a huge advantage.

Those numbers are all important but the most important stat of any game will always be the one added to the win or loss column. The Mavericks clearly have some things to work on but they won the game tonight while being more efficient and for now that is enough.
