Luka Doncic and Slovenia, as well as Josh Green and Australia, have advanced to the knockout round at the Olympics in Tokyo.

After a full slate of pool play at the Olympics in Tokyo, both Dallas Mavericks players participating for their respective countries have advanced. Luka Doncic (Slovenia) and Josh Green (Australia) will now enter a single-elimination round of basketball, with just eight teams remaining.

Green has played very sparingly for a solid Australian national team, who went undefeated against Nigeria, Italy, and Germany. After starting the first game, Green logged just one minute of play in the remaining two games — though it’s worth mentioning that the team is well established with NBA talent around the perimeter.

Luka Doncic and the Slovenian team were impressive in their three games: they blew out both Argentina and Japan, then pulled out a gritty win against reigning FIBA champion Spain. After exploding for 48 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in his Olympic debut, Doncic finished pool play averaging 28 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks per game.

At the time of this writing we have yet to see broadcast information for the games, but we do gave game times. This is when both teams play, and their possible path to the gold medal:

Slovenia

  • Slovenia (3-0) v. Germany (1-2) — Monday, Aug 2 8 P.M. CT

If they do advance:

  • POSSIBLE Semi-final: play the winner of Italy (2-1) v. France (3-0)

Wednesday, Aug 4 11:15 P.M. CT

Australia

  • Australia (3-0) v. Argentina (1-2) — Tuesday, Aug 3 7 A.M. CT

If they do advance:

  • POSSIBLE Semi-final: play the winner of United States (2-1) v. Spain (2-1)

Thursday, Aug 5 6 A.M. CT

Of note, the gold medal game takes place Friday, August 6 at 9:30 P.M. CT. It’s possible that Luka Doncic and Josh Green will face off in the final. But for those of us dreaming of Luka tearing through the tournament path to face the U.S. for the right to wear gold, the bracket is set up for that to take place. Perhaps the basketball gods will smile brightly on us and we’ll have plenty to celebrate this week.
