SMU’s Keith Frazier Academically Ineligible (UPDATED)

December 22, 2022 by Zags Blog

ncb_a_frazier_d1_300x200***UPDATED 1/23/15:  SMU coach Larry Brown said Keith Frazier’s appeal has been turned down by the NCAA, and thus the guard won’t play again this season, according to Billy Embody of Scout.com.***

SMU sophomore guard Keith Frazier is academically ineligible for the remainder of the season, according to reports from ESPN.com and Scout.com.

SMU coach Larry Brown was not immediately available for comment.

SMU Scout writer Billy Embody reported that “Frazier has appealed to be allowed to play this upcoming semester, the sources said, but the appeal is ‘unlikely’ to be approved, one source said.

SMU already lost McDonald’s All-American guard Emmanuel Mudiay before he played a single game. Mudiay opted to play in China after it was reported he might not pass through the NCAA Clearinghouse. He has been injured in China and may opt to pull a Dante Exum and simply wait until the NBA Draft, where he is a projected top-3 pick.

Frazier, another McDonald’s All-American out of Dallas (TX) Kimball, is averaging 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Justin Martin also left SMU recently to turn pro, but ESPN.com reported it was also related to academics. A senior forward, Martin is averaging 5.7 points.

SMU (13-4, 4-1 American) has won 11 of 12.
