Former TCU defensive lineman James McFarland was named Defensive MVP of the 2014 Peach Bowl.
The TCU Horned Frogs are less than 50 days from kicking off the 2025 football season with a nonconference road matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels and new head coach Bill Belichick. As we count down the days until kickoff, we’ll highlight a former (or current) Horned Frog whose jersey number represents the number of days left until the opener.

40 – James McFarland (Defensive Lineman – 2012-16)
McFarland was named Defensive MVP of TCU’s dominant Peach Bowl win against Ole Miss in 2014, intercepting a pass from quarterback Bo Wallace in the endzone for a touchdown. The West Monroe, Louisiana native spent five years with the Horned Frogs, playing in 51 games despite missing the 2015 season to an injury. McFarland compiled 99 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and 10 pass breakups during his career as a Horned Frog. McFarland’s best season came as a junior in 2014, when the defensive end recorded career-highs in total tackles (41), tackles for loss (12), sacks (7) and forced fumbles (3).
