Former TCU tight end Kelly Blackwell was named a consensus All-American during the 1991 season.
The TCU Horned Frogs are less than 100 days from kicking off the 2025 football season with a nonconference road matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels and new head coach Bill Belichick. As we count down the days until kickoff, we’ll highlight a former (or current) Horned Frog whose jersey number represents the number of days left until the opener.

86 – Kelly Blackwell (Tight End – 1988-91)
Blackwell finished with 181 catches for 2,155 yards and 13 touchdowns over four years with the Horned Frogs. One of the best tight ends in program history, Blackwell concluded his time at TCU as a two-time First-Team All-Southwest Conference honoree during the 1990 and 1991 seasons. Blackwell received All-American recognition over each of those two seasons, earning Third-Team All-American status in 1990 and Consensus All-American status in 1991.
Despite going undrafted, Blackwell spent two years in the NFL, earning a Super Bowl ring as a brief member of the Dallas Cowboys in 1993. Blackwell played two years in the Arena Football League as a rostered member of the Fort Worth Cavalry in 1994 and the Connecticut Coyotes in 1995.
