A dynamic pass rusher near the end of TCU’s run in the Mountain West and its first season in the Big 12 Conference, Maponga redshirted in 2009 before becoming a fixture on the defensive line over the next three years. A two-time All-MWC and an All-Big 12 First Team honoree, Maponga collected 113 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries during his collegiate career. Maponga was taken in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons and played in 24 games for Atlanta.
Maponga spent time on practice squads with the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos from 2015-18. His professional stops also included brief stints with the XFL’s Seattle Dragons (2019) and Orlando Guardians (2022) as well as the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL in 2021.
