Gonzales has served with the Horned Frogs since 2012.
Baylor football announced Sunday evening that the team would be hiring TCU safeties coach Paul Gonzales to serve as Baylor’s new defensive passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach. Gonzales has worked at TCU since 2012 and became the team’s safeties coach in 2018 after previously coaching cornerbacks. Gonzales remained on staff when TCU parted ways with former head coach Gary Patterson and hired Sonny Dykes to take over the program. Gonzales was TCU’s longest-tenured assistant coach on the staff.

Under Gonzales, TCU sent several safeties to the NFL including Mark Perry, Millard Bradford, Tre’von Moehrig, Ar’Darius Washington and Vernon Scott. Gonzales is the third assistant coach to depart from the 2024 coaching staff, following inside wide receivers/tight ends coach Doug Meacham (now with Oklahoma State) and cornerbacks coach Carlton Buckels. TCU recently received good news at the safety position, with All-Big 12 honoree Bud Clark announcing that he would return to the Horned Frogs for the 2025 campaign. True sophomore and former four-star recruit Jamel Johnson will also be back next fall.
