The two-time All-Big 12 honoree becomes the third Horned Frog drafted this year.
TCU cornerback Josh Newton went off the board in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon, with the Cincinnati Bengals using the 149th overall selection on the two-time All-Big 12 honoree. Newton becomes the third TCU athlete taken in the draft this week, following fourth-rounder Jared Wiley (Kansas City Chiefs) and third-rounder Brandon Coleman (Washington Commanders). Newton played two seasons at TCU, receiving All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2022 and All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2023.

Newton totaled 68 tackles and four interceptions over his two seasons as a Horned Frog. The 6-foot, 190-pounder started his collegiate career at Louisiana-Monroe, where he played three seasons and recorded 84 tackles and three interceptions. Newton’s five-year collegiate career included 34 passed defensed, 12 of which came during the 2022 season when TCU reached the national title game. Newton will join a young Cincinnati secondary room that includes a pair of second-rounders in Cam Taylor-Britt and DJ Turner II as well as veteran Mike Hilton and former first-rounder in Dax Hill.
