
The former four-star recruit and No. 1 prospect in TCU’s 2023 class will depart after one season in Fort Worth.
Transfer portal season has officially begun and the TCU Horned Frogs have seen multiple players declare their intentions to leave the program over the last several days. Freshman wide receiver and former four-star prospect Cordale Russell is among the latest to leave the program, as he will reportedly enter the transfer portal after only one season in Fort Worth. Russell was the highest-rated prospect in the TCU Class of 2023 according to 247Sports.

Russell was initially recruited to TCU by former assistant coach Ra’Shaad Samples, who departed for the Los Angeles Rams before joining the Arizona State coaching staff along with another former TCU assistant, Bryan Carrington. The 6-foot-4 freshman from Mesquite, Texas appeared in only three games and did not record a reception during the 2023 season. Russell is one of four TCU players currently in the transfer portal, joining safety Chace Biddle along with offensive tackle Jasper Lott and safety Daveion Crawford.
