The Horned Frogs are in Toronto for a Hall of Fame Series showdown with the ACC foe
TCU Men’s Basketball will see its first true test of the 2023-24 season on Saturday, taking on the #24 Clemson Tigers in Toronto Canada as part of the Hall of Fame Series. It’s the Horned Frogs’ first game versus a ranked opponent this season as the two undefeated squads put their unblemished record on the line.
TCU enters the game 7-0 and has not played since last Saturday when it was on the road at Georgetown, needing an Emanuel Miller buzzer beater from long range to take down the Hoyas. Miller was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and his big week put him atop the TCU scoring chart for the season, averaging 15.9 points per game, enough to just overcome JaKobe Coles’ 15.7 points. TCU has been a top-ten scoring team on two-point field goals, making 62% inside the arc with a top-15 tempo and continue to lead the nation in fast break scoring, with 29 points per game in transition.
Clemson is off to a blazing start, looking to avoid a place on the bubble in March, the Tigers enter the game 8-0 with major conference victories over rival South Carolina, Alabama, and Pitt and will open ACC play on January 3 at Miami. Clemson is powered by big man PJ Hall, the 6’10” Center averages over 20 points per game and is a menace defensively as well, averaging 3.3 stocks per game. Starting senior guard duo of Joe Girard and Chase Hunter are also elite key contributors, each scoring in double digits while averaging at least 2 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Junior forward Ian Schieffelin is dominant on the glass, averaging just under 10 boards per game, contributing to one of the nation’s lowest offensive rebound allowed rate. The Tigers are also deadly from beyond the arc, with a top-10 overall 3FG%, shooting over 41% from long range; this is a place the Tigers will look to exploit as the Frogs rank 280th nationally in 3FG defense, allowing opponents to make over 35%.
