Men’s Basketball: Providence transfer guard Jayden Pierre commits to TCU

April 7, 2025 by Frogs o War

Big East Basketball Tournament - Semifinals

The Horned Frogs add their second backcourt player of the offseason.

TCU men’s basketball has reportedly landed a commitment from Providence junior guard Jayden Pierre, who averaged 12.3 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season. Pierre is a 6-foot-2 guard from Elizabeth, New Jersey who boasts a 40.3 percent shooting rate from the field and a 36.4 percent shooting rate from 3-point range for his career. Pierre has played in 97 games with 63 starts over three years at Providence.

Pierre became a starting guard for the Friars during the 2023-24 season, when he played in 32 games and averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds while making 40.2 percent of his shots and 36.6 percent of his shots from 3-point range. A career 78.8-percent shooter from the free-throw line, Pierre was a key reserve for Providence during his freshman year, when he appeared in 33 games and shot 54.5 percent from the 3-point line.

Pierre becomes the second transfer portal addition for the Horned Frogs, who landed Iowa transfer guard Brock Harding late last month. TCU is looking to reload in the backcourt after losing veteran guards Frankie Collins and Vasean Allette to the transfer portal. The Horned Frogs are also losing senior guards Brendan Wenzel and Noah Reynolds, who are both out of eligibility after transferring in from Wyoming and Green Bay last offseason. Among TCU’s returning guards are former Kansas State transfer R.J. Jones along with redshirt freshman Jace Posey and true freshman Ashton Simmons, who redshirted during the 2024-25 season.
