TCU will square off against UNT in December 2025.
After scheduling a non-conference matchup with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the TCU Horned Frogs have reportedly identified their next non-conference foe. TCU will take on the North Texas Mean Green at Dickies Arena on December 7th as part of a double-header already featuring a Texas Tech versus LSU contest.

It will have been almost 21 years to the date since the Horned Frogs last battled the Mean Green. The two Texan universities last clashed on December 4, 2004. In that affair, TCU bested UNT by 10 points, winning 88-78. Current TCU Player Development Coach Corey Santee led the way, scoring 18 points. The 2004 matchup capped a four-year home-and-home series between the nearby schools. The Horned Frogs won three of the four matchups.
Moreover, TCU and UNT matched up consistently through the latter half of the 1900s. From 1970 onward, the Horned Frogs took on the Mean Green 17 times. Overall, the two programs have faced off 73 times. TCU has won 41 such occurrences.
Although the Mean Green are a mid-major program, they’re far from a cakewalk. North Texas has won 20 or more games in six of the last eight seasons. Since 2020, the Mean Green have the 21st best win percentage and have won the 18th most games in Division I basketball. Following Grant McCasland’s departure to Texas Tech in 2023, Ross Hodge took over, winning 46 games across two seasons before bolting to West Virginia. North Texas has since hired former Cleveland State Head Coach Daniyal Robinson.
With UNT’s basketball program on the rise, it won’t be a surprise to see the Horned Frogs schedule more contests in the near future, with the next-closest university.
