It all came down to the No. 5 player from each side with Chan representing the Frogs. Chan took the first set in a tiebreaker before his opponent responded with a tiebreaker win of his own in the second set. For the second straight match, Chan came in clutch and won the clinching point for the Frogs, this time in the third set with a score of 6-3.
TCU was matched up with their in-state rival Baylor in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament and advanced to the semis with a 4-1 win over the Bears. Again, the Frogs started in an early hole after losing the doubles point despite a 7-5 win from Pinnington and Vives. Maxted tied the scoring at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over his Baylor opponent. Women’s Tennis
The Frogs closed out their regular season and competed at the Big 12 Tournament this past week. First was a matchup with No. 8 ranked Texas in Fort Worth where the Frogs dropped a tough on by a score of 4-1. The Longhorns took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point despite a 7-5 win from Destinee Martins and Helena Narmount. Raquel Caballero Chica put the Frogs on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 straight sets singles win but the Frogs were unfortunately not able to overcome the early deficit as UT clinched the win in singles.
Next was Senior Day in Fort Worth against No. 20-ranked Oklahoma. The Frogs took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a doubles win from Martins and Narmount by a score of 7-6 (8-6) and a doubles win from Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual by a score of 6-1. Martins was the first to pick up a win in singles from either side, putting the Frogs up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over the top singles player from OU. The Sooners would, however, go on to win the next four singles matches and clinch the win over the Frogs.
The Frogs were matched up with Kansas State in the first round of the Big 12 Championship Tournament and originally picked up a thrilling 4-3 win but K-State appealed the outcome and the win was overturned upon review. Kansas State claimed that TCU’s doubles pairings were not ranked in order of ability and upon review, the Big 12 upheld the protest and turned the doubles point over to K-State giving the Wildcats a 4-3 win.
The Frogs played well despite the controversial ruling, Martins was a game away from a double bagel in singles, taking down the top player from KSU by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Otway battled back to win her singles match after losing the first set by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Pascual also picked up a singles win after losing the first set with a final score of 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 (9-7).
