It’ll be a head-to-head Horned Frog battle for a spot in the final 16 in Paris

The Horned Frogs continue to flourish at Roland Garros, as former TCU Tennis stars Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie each advancing to the Third Round of the 2025 French Open.

After a dramatic 5-set thriller in victory over No. 11 Daniil Medvedev in the First Round, Cam Norrie sprinted to a much simpler result in Round 2, sweeping Federico Gomez 7-6, 6-2, 6-1. Despite the sweep, it was far from a cakewalk for Norrie. He looked to be running away with the match early, jumping to a 4-1 advantage in the first set before Gomez pushed it to a lengthy tiebreaker, fighting off set point five times before Norrie finally took the tiebreaker game 9-7. After the marathon 67 minute first set, Norrie handled business with a quickness, needing a combined 66 minutes to secure the final two sets.

Jake Fearnley’s path to the Third Round came under unfortunate circumstances as his opponent Ugo Humbert was forced to retire the match during the second set after sustaining an injury. Although the injury shortened the match, Fearnley was far from undeserving of the advancement into the final 32. The TCU alumnus and British national earned a first set victory, breaking the hometown Humbert three times to take the opening set 6-3. The second set was a well-contested back-and-forth battle, with each player earning a break point and the set tied 4-4 and Fearnley on serve when the injury occurred. Humbert tracked down a Fearnley backhand, sending a shot wide as his foot got awkwardly stuck in the clay court, causing an apparent ankle and calf injury.

A testament of the strength of the program David Roditi has built in Fort Worth will be on display on the global stage on Saturday May 31st on TBS & truTV. The winner of the all-Frog showdown will play in the Round of 16 vs. the winner of No. 6 Novak Djokovic vs. Filip Misolic.
