Florida State volleyball earns six seed in NCAA tournament, will face TCU in Fayetteville | WCTV

Fresh off an ACC Co-Championship after defeating Notre Dame on Saturday, Florida State volleyball is heading to its 24th NCAA Tournament.

The Seminoles 23-8 record was a strong enough resume to earn a six seed in the big dance, matching the ‘Noles up against TCU in the Fayetteville Regional. Should FSU prevail over the Horned Frogs, the Garnet and Gold will face either Stephen F. Austin or regional host and three seeded Arkansas in the second round.

Horned Frogs season comes to a disappointing end in loss to the Oklahoma Sooners | Fort Worth Star-Telegram

After a lengthy first quarter that featured big plays and big mistakes by both sides, TCU only trailed the Sooners 14-13. But the close game wouldn’t last long as the Sooners outscored the Horned Frogs 28-3 in the second quarter.

“Disappointed that we didn’t play better,” coach Sonny Dykes said. “I was proud of our guys for getting back in the game in the second half. We got it down to two scores and got back in the game but couldn’t get a stop.”

Gary Patterson is a strong candidate to become the next head coach at Houston, sources tell FootballScoop.

Other candidates could emerge as the search progresses. Dana Holgorsen was let go earlier Sunday.

Patterson, 63, built a Hall of Fame resume at TCU from 2000-21 going 181-79 with six conference championships, six AP Top 10 finishes, and two New Year’s Six bowl victories.

Dillon Gabriel passed for 400 yards and three touchdowns to help No. 13 Oklahoma defeat TCU 69-45 on Friday and improve its chances of reaching the Big 12 championship game.

TCU made it tough in the second half before the Sooners pulled away. The Horned Frogs needed a win to become bowl eligible and fell short a year after playing for the national championship.

Sonny Dykes evaluating “everything” following 5-7 regular season | 247Sports

Sonny Dykes sat in the visitor’s press room at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Friday afternoon, having just watched his team give up 60+ points in the second consecutive season finale.

The first question was inevitably about the defense. More specifically, about whether or not he was considering making a change at defensive coordinator.

“Probably the wrong time to ask me right now,” Dykes said. “I’ve got to sit down and evaluate everything.”

TCU gained clarity on program’s future in loss to Oklahoma | Fort Worth Star-Telegram

TCU gained clarity about what needs to be done in what becomes the most important off-season of the Sonny Dykes era. While speaking to the media after the 69-45 loss to the Sooners, Dykes reaffirmed that he has complete confidence that 2022 wasn’t a fluke and TCU is still positioned to compete in the new Big 12.

“I have a ton of confidence in our program and a lot of confidence in our players,” Dykes said. “We’re going to be a contender in the Big 12 moving forward, that’s our goal. To be year-in, year -out one of those teams people talk about getting to the 12-team playoff.”

TCU commit Nate Palmer of Decatur scorches Estacado in region semifinal football win | Yahoo

Decatur running back Nate Palmer showed Friday what makes him a prized recruit.

The TCU commit scored six touchdowns in a 52-21 Region I-4A Division I semifinal win over Estacado at Shotwell Stadium, perhaps none bigger than a 96-yard kickoff return.

After the Matadors scored their first TD to cut the deficit to 10 points, Palmer returned the ensuing kick to give momentum back to the Eagles.

With its Big 12-Big East Battle matchup at Georgetown set for Saturday, TCU has one last tune-up Monday night as the Horned Frogs welcome Houston Christian to Fort Worth, Texas, aiming to keep their undefeated season intact.

TCU (5-0) is coming off a 93-74 win over Alcorn State last Tuesday. Houston Christian is winless in four games, though the Huskies lost twice by single digits.

“Our strength of schedule will be top-10 the rest of the way,” Dixon said. “Obviously, we are backloaded as far as nonconference (games).”
