The Frog is headed to South Beach.

R.J. Nembhard went undrafted in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, but it wasn’t long after the draft ended that he found a home.

Miami didn’t have a pick in this year’s NBA Draft, so their full attention has been on UDFA market. Nembhard joins South Carolina guard AJ Lawson, LSU guard Javonte Smart, and a handful of others in signing with the Heat, so competition for a spot on the roster will be fierce.

Miami Heat’s undrafted player signings tonight:

– Dejon Jarreau (23) 6-foot-5, guard.
– Micah Potter (23) 6-foot-10, forward.
– D.J. Stewart Jr. (22) 6-foot-6, guard.
– Javonte Smart (22) 6-foot-4, guard
– A.J. Lawson (21) 6-foot-6, guard.
– R.J. Nembhard (22) 6-foot-5, guard.

The addition of five guards and one forward show where Miami’s priorities are this offseason, as the Heat fell from the second best three-point shooting percentage in 2020, to 19th in the league in 2021. While Nembhard has been a streaky three point shooter in his college career, he’s shown he can hit big shots and is capable of creating opportunities for himself and for teammates.

In his final season at TCU Nembhard averaged 15.7 points per game on 40% shooting from the floor, including 33.9% from three point range. The guard embraced his expanded role with the departure of Desmond Bane and became the vocal leader of an incredibly young basketball team struggling through COVID and a tough season on the court.

Now, he has a chance to live out his dream of playing in the NBA, and Frog fans will be cheering him on.

Congrats, RJ!
