The English Premier League Continues With Gameday Five!

September 18, 2021 by The Sports Fan Journal Leave a Comment

The 2021/22 Premier League season is well and truly underway, with some of the best soccer action happening this weekend! Here at TSFJ, we’re going to round up all of the upcoming action that starts tonight on Friday night!

There’s plenty of soccer action happening now as all of the European leagues have started within the past month. Now, gameday five is about to get underway, and starts with what could be an exciting encounter.

Friday Night Football

With a 3pm EST kick off, Newcastle United host Leeds United in today’s interesting matchup. The Magpies have had a tough start to the new campaign, and have only got one point after the opening four games. That was a draw against Southampton in a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have only fared one point more than their upcoming opponents, and are just outside of the relegation spot. After a disappointing 5-1 loss in the opening game to Manchester United, but draws against Everton and Burnley have Leeds one point above Newcastle.

Action Packed Saturday

Saturday kicks off with Wolverhampton Wanderers playing at home against newly-promoted Brentford. It’s an early one, with a 7.30am EST kick off time! Both Wolves & Brentford have only won one in their first four games – both were 2-0 victories over Watford & Arsenal respectively.

There’s a full day of soccer on Saturday, that continues with a number of 3pm kick offs (10am EST). That includes the 2020/21 Premier League champions Manchester City host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium. Hoping to challenge for the title, Liverpool also play at the same time – a home game against Crystal Palace.

In the other two matches kicking off at 10am EST, there’s a game between two of the three teams promoted from the Championship last season, as Norwich City host Watford. As well as that, a struggling Arsenal team travel to the north west of the country to face Burnley.

The latest kick off on Saturday is at Villa Park for Aston Villa vs Everton. The away side are one of the five teams yet to lose a league game in the opening four gamedays, and will certainly look to build on this if they can. Meanwhile, it’s been an average season for Villa, who have only won one and drawn one so far.

Super Sunday

The weekend of Premier League action ends on Sunday, but there’s three top games for you to watch. Kicking off at 9am EST, Brighton & Hove Albion host Leicester City. Meanwhile, there’s another game starting at the same time, as current leaders Manchester United travel to London to play West Ham United.

Then, shortly afterwards, we stay in the capital for a London derby, as Tottenham Hotspur host Chelsea in an eagerly-awaited clash. Like Manchester United and Everton, Chelsea are another not to have lost a league game after four games. Spurs were top of the table, before a disappointing 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace dropped them to 7th in the Premier League.
