The 2021 college football season is inching closer and closer with Week 0 just over two weeks away. With the start of a new year just around the corner, comes the first official preseason Coaches’ Poll.
To no one’s surprise, Alabama claimed the top spot following an undefeated 2020 season that saw the Crimson Tide dominate every team that stood in their path. Nick Saban and co. will be back with a new quarterback and a retooled offense but still project to be one of the top teams in all of college football.
Clemson came in at No. 2 and Oklahoma followed closely behind at No. 3. Both teams will lean heavily on their quarterbacks this fall, as the Tigers plan to hand the reins to rising sophomore D.J. Ugialelei while the Sooners will stick with Heisman Trophy contender Spencer Rattler.
Ohio State and Georgia rounded out the top-five of the first edition of this year’s Coaches’ Poll. Here’s a look at the full rankings:

The SEC led the way in the coaches’ poll with six teams represented. The Big Ten came next with five schools, followed by the Big 12, which had four schools crack the top 25. The ACC and the Pac-12 rounded out the Power Five conferences with three teams apiece making the cut.
Notre Dame, Cincinnati, UL Lafayette and Coastal Carolina were the four representatives from outside of the major leagues to make the top 25.
It’s difficult to attribute too much weight to these early rankings, but they at least signify that college football is almost ready to get underway. Week 0 can’t come soon enough.
