Nation’s top linebacker is closing in on a commitment.
Another five-star prospect looks poised to come off the board soon, and Texas is right in the middle of the recruitment.
Five-star Loganville (GA) Grayson linebacker Tyler Atkinson announced earlier today that his recruitment is down to four finalists. Per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Atkinson will make a college decision between Clemson, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas, and a decision will be coming soon.

Atkinson took official visits to all of his finalists during the summer official visit window, with his final visit being to the Longhorns in mid-June.

Atkinson’s recruitment has been a tough one to handicap, with NIL reportedly being a heavy factor. Georgia has been the presumed frontrunner given he hails from their home turf, but the late visit to Texas definitely raised some eyebrows given their need at the position and their ability to put a competitive NIL package on the table.
Atkinson is rated as the nation’s top linebacker prospect, and he has put up video game production at the prep level, so needless to say the perfect race will need to be run to land him in the end. Atkinson has some of the best linebacker film I have seen this cycle, so I am very curious to see how hard Texas pursues, given how things have played out for them thus far.
