Texas cornerback Terrance Brooks is entering the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Tuesday.
Brooks, a four-star, top 100 recruit in the class of 2022, was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2023, appearing in 14 games with 13 starts. He recorded 20 tackles, three interceptions and six pass breakups.
As a true freshman in 2022, Brooks played in nine games, making nine tackles and breaking up three passes. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
“I want to thank God, my family and the Longhorn nation for everything. At this time, I will be entering into the transfer portal,” Brooks said on social media this afternoon.
Back in February, Orangebloods’ Geoff Ketchum cited a source saying the Texas coaching staff believed Brooks was “attacking the off-season in a different way” and was “transforming from kid to young man.”
Now, he’s on his way out of Austin.
“Terrance Brooks situation is bizarre to me,” said On Texas Football’s C.J. Vogel. “Wasn’t a great spring, certainly not a strong spring game performance, but still slated to be a starting CB. Texas now in the market for a CB, which there was a really talented one on the market out west who might still be an option.”
Coming off the first College Football Playoff appearance in school history, Texas will begin play in the SEC this fall.
