Jimbo Fisher Shares First Public Comment On Oklahoma, Texas

For the longest time, the only real opposition to Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC came from former Big 12 member, Texas A&M. But with the move now official, the Aggies’ head coach Jimbo Fisher has shared his thoughts.

Speaking to the media, Fisher said that he isn’t going to “worry” about the two Big 12 schools this year and will instead focus on what his team needs to do in 2021. He acknowledged that Oklahoma and Texas were voted in as SEC members and said he’s “glad to have them.”

“I’m going to worry about us this year,” Fisher said. “We voted them in. Glad to have them. It’s a great conference. This is the best ball in the country, so we’ll line up and play, and (we) look forward to playing them.”

This isn’t the first time that Fisher has spoken up on the issue though. Back in July, Fisher warned that Oklahoma and Texas had best “be careful what (they) ask for” in joining the SEC.

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher on Texas & Oklahoma entering SEC, perhaps as soon as 2022:
“I’ll worry about us this year. We voted them in and glad to have ’em. It’s a great conference – this is the best ball in the country. We’ll line up and play, and look forward to playing ’em”

The move is set to be completed in 2025, at which time the longtime rivalries between Texas A&M and the two new entries will be renewed.

Texas A&M have not played Oklahoma since 2013, while the Aggies have not played their in-state rivals since 2011.

With no plans for either school to play Texas A&M in the immediate future, 2025 may be the earliest we see them clash again other than in bowl games.

Will Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies be able to knock off Oklahoma or Texas once they join the SEC?
