Only One Member Of Ohio State’s 2021 Recruiting Class Has Beaten Michigan

Michigan won its fourth consecutive game against Ohio State on Saturday, besting the Buckeyes 13-10 in Columbus.

Until Saturday, Michigan hadn’t beaten OSU four times in a row since 1988-91. The Wolverines actually did not lose to the Buckeyes from 1988-93, with the two teams tying in 1992 and Michigan winning again the following year.

Not only has Ohio State head coach Ryan Day lost four straight to the Maize and Blue, but every member of the Buckeyes’ heralded 2021 recruiting class has never beaten Michigan–except one.

The only player from that 2021 haul, which was ranked No. 2 nationally, to earn a W against the Wolverines is quarterback Quinn Ewers, who had to transfer for Texas to get it.

Ewers completed 24-of-36 passes for 246 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Longhorns’ 31-12 win in Ann Arbor back on Sept. 7. The five-star recruit had been on the sideline for Ohio State’s loss at Michigan in 2021.

“It’s definitely a little different when I was just sitting on the sideline (in 2021),” Ewers said after beating Texas in September.

“For sure, I understand how big of a moment (this is), just because I’ve been here before, and I know what the atmosphere was like.”

While Ohio State was losing to Michigan on Saturday afternoon, Ewers was preparing to lead Texas against Texas A&M in College Station. He completed 17-of-28 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Longhorns’ 17-7 win, which essentially wrapped up a College Football Playoff berth for the program.

Ohio State, now 10-2 on the season, will be hoping to join them in the 12-team field.

“Everybody wants to win this game in the worst way, and nobody wants to win it more than we do. It’s our No. 1 goal every year,” Ryan Day said postgame.

“And so when you don’t do that, there’s disappointment and frustration. And so, I don’t blame anybody for being upset. I’m upset more than anybody. And those players are, too, and the coaches and everybody that goes at it. We know what we’re getting ourselves into here.”
