Quarterback Quinn Ewers has revealed the reason why he transferred from Ohio State to Texas.
Ewers originally committed to the Buckeyes in the class of 2021 and was the top overall recruit in that class, regardless of position. He was set to be the quarterback of the future for the program until things changed.
C.J. Stroud started over him and ran away with the job after having an outstanding 2021 campaign. As a freshman, he threw for 4,435 yards and had a TD/INT ratio of 44/6. He finished top three in the Heisman Trophy voting and looks poised to be a top candidate again in 2022.
Ewers eventually decided to transfer and it wasn’t because he’d likely sit behind Stroud again. It was because he wanted to play for the team he grew up cheering for.
“I grew up always watching the Longhorns play,” Ewers said. “I wanted to be in that burnt orange, and you know, there was a little obstacle in between, but I ended up here and I’m very thankful for all the opportunities God has given me and I’m just excited to be back in the home state.

The college football world thinks Ewers went to Texas for other reasons.

Ewers will likely be the starting quarterback in Texas this season as the program tries to get back to relevancy.
