Quinn Ewers Responds To ‘Report’ He Was Opting Out Of Season

Quinn Ewers shut down a false report about him leaving Texas.

On Monday, an Instagram account from 247Sports said the Longhorns quarterback decided to sit out the remainder of the 2024 season to prepare for next year’s NFL Draft. Numerous reporters debunked the post, which 247Sports quickly deleted. They claimed their Instagram page got hacked.

Per Pete Thamel and CJ Vogel, Ewers practiced with Texas on Monday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt.

Ewers also appeared to refute the claim, writing“Fake News!” in the caption of an Instagram Stories post.

Following a stellar start to his junior year, Ewers missed two games with an oblique injury. He returned to lead the Longhorns to a one-sided Red River Rivalry win over Oklahoma, but Steve Sarkisian re-opened the door for a quarterback controversy on Saturday.

Down 20-0 to Georgia in the first half, Sarkisian momentarily benched Ewers for Arch Manning. Ewers re-entered the game after halftime, finishing the 30-15 loss with 211 passing yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and two lost fumbles.

“We lost to a good team today, and I think everybody understands that,” Ewers said. “Obviously not the outcome that we wanted, but there’s still a lot of football to be played.”

After Saturday’s shortcoming, the first of the season for the previously top-ranked Longhorns, Sarkisian said Ewers will remain his starting quarterback.

Monday’s false story mirrors an actual situation that unfolded last month. Amid a 3-0 start, UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka decided to sit out the rest of the season because of alleged unfulfilled NIL obligations.

However, Ewers should be on the field to start Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.
