Son Of Former NFL Quarterback Drawing Arch Manning Comparisons

August 17, 2024 by The Spun

Meet Peyton Manning’s Wife (1:18)

The college and NFL success of his uncles and grandfather turned Arch Manning into the most hyped college quarterback prospect of all-time. But now it appears that another son of an NFL great could be on the verge of a massive recruiting cycle.

In a recent ranking of the Class of 2027, Fairhope St. Michael Catholic quarterback Gunner Rivers was ranked No. 64 overall by 247Sports. Gunner Rivers is the son of eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers, who also serves as the high school’s head coach.

In a write-up on his status as a prospect, CBS Sports’ Andrew Ivins made a couple of comparisons between Rivers and Manning. He also pointed out that as a true freshman he threw for over 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns.

“Move over, Arch Manning. We’re kidding, but we do have another quarterback with a promising NFL pedigree as Gunner Rivers (No. 64 overall) is the son of Philip Rivers. He had an impressive freshman campaign at Fairhope (Ala.) St. Michael Catholic, throwing for 3,077 yards with 29 touchdowns… Like Manning, the younger Rivers doesn’t have social media and he hasn’t done many camps,” Ivins wrote.

Only a small handful of top players in the Class of 2027 have made commitments to colleges, which means that there’s plenty of time for Gunner Rivers to improve his skills and become an even bigger prospect.

But even if Rivers becomes one of the nation’s top recruits, it’s hard to imagine the hype being as big for him as it was for Manning.

Rivers’ father was a great quarterback who shattered records during his time with the Chargers. The Mannings, on the other hand, are football royalty.
