College football legend Steve Spurrier has no love for the Texas Longhorns, and isn’t afraid to show it. Now that the Longhorns are jumping from the Big 12 to the SEC, he’s ready to tell everyone exactly how he feels.
In a recent media interview, Spurrier was asked to give his thoughts on Texas and Oklahoma making the jump. In a comment that his quickly gone viral, Spurrier said he didn’t blame the Longhorns because they “can’t win the Big 12 anyway.”
“I can understand Texas jumping over,” Spurrier said. “They get to play Texas A&M again… They can’t win the Big 12 anyway. I think they’ve only won two in the last 30 years or so. So I can see Texas jumping over — more money, playing A&M, this, that and the other…”
While Spurrier may have exaggerated his numbers a bit, his comment on Texas is quickly going viral. Plenty of people are taking all kinds of joy in seeing the 76-year-old Hall of Famer absolutely drag the Longhorns:

Classic Steve Spurrier to @osgators on Texas/Oklahoma: “I can understand Texas jumping (to SEC). They get to play Texas A&M again. (Texas) can’t win Big 12 anyway. I don’t think (OU is) going to come to SEC & win w/any regularity the way they win the Big 12”

Oklahoma and Texas are set to depart the Big 12 Conference after 25 years as original members. Their departure will essentially kill the conference, and Steve Spurrier doesn’t love it.
But he has hopes that it works out for the best.
“I feel sad for the other (Big 12) schools – Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa State and all those guys. They obviously need those two schools there. But, looks like it’s gonna happen. Maybe it will work out for the best.”
Steve Spurrier’s teams never crossed paths with the Longhorns during his decades as a head coach. But his son did briefly work for Texas’ arch-rival Oklahoma – which probably contributed to some disdain for the Longhorns.
But maybe it’s just Spurrier being Spurrier. As an SEC lifer, he probably has some very strong feelings on other conferences that he doesn’t always share.
