The Texas Longhorns commit quickly indicated that he has reached an agreement with the Rangers to begin his professional baseball career.
“I’ll be foregoing that and signing with the Texas Rangers.”

The slot value for the No. 12 selection in this year’s draft is $5.7 million.
“There’s a lot of good players in this Draft,” said Rangers director of amateur scouting Kip Fagg. “Picking 12, you have access to some really good ones. Through extensive work with our staff, we felt very comfortable with Gavin versus most of these players in this Draft. We were excited to be able to access a player of this caliber.”
Fien committed to the former Texas coaching staff in August 2021, but his trajectory pointed towards a professional future over his high school trajectory with some projections slotting him as a corner infielder or outfielder in the future.
