Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown is back at practice

The star linebacker missed the final three quarters against Oklahoma State after suffering a concussion.

The leading tackler for the Texas Longhorns was back at practice on Monday — senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has cleared concussion protocol after leaving the Oct. 16 game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at the end of the second quarter, head coach Steve Sarkisian said on Monday.

Overshown was off to a typically fast start in that game with four tackles in the first quarter, giving him a team-leading 56 tackles on the year, as the Texas defense held Oklahoma State to 79 total yards. In the second half, however, the Longhorns tired and lost their run fits as the Cowboys possessed the ball for more than 20 minute and rushed for 170 yards.

The bright spot when Overshown left the game was sophomore linebacker Jaylan Ford, who finished the game with a team-leading 12 tackles (seven solo), one tackle for loss, and a quarterback hurry. The tackle for loss came on a two-point conversion attempt by Oklahoma State that required Ford to cover Jaylen Warren on a swing pass out of the backfield and Ford showed off the requisite athleticism to make the play well behind the line of scrimmage.

So it’s possible that Overshown’s injury could benefit Texas throughout the remainder of conference play if Ford receives more playing time over junior Luke Brockermeyer, who doesn’t move as well as Ford and is dealing with a hurt shoulder.

Sophomore cornerback Kitan Crawford is day to day with a hamstring injury suffered playing on special teams against Oklahoma State.
