With multiple additions from the portal favored to earn playing time over the Louisiana-Monroe transfer, Texas has suffered some more attrition.
As the transfer portal closed in college baseball, the Texas Longhorns experienced some late attrition in the outfield with the entrance of Easton Winfield into the portal at the end of June.
Transfer News: OF Easton Winfield has entered the portal. Took a bit of a step back this year after a standout Freshman season, but there are intriguing tools here. Strong, compact frame with PS thump. Can go and get it in the OF, runs well – esp. underway.pic.twitter.com/fJ9l9z1p91

The 6’0, 215-pounder has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Out of Alvin, Winfield was the No. 61 player and the No. 4 outfielder in the state of Texas when he signed with Louisiana-Monroe as a member of the 2023 recruiting class.
Winfield quickly made an impact for the Warhawks — versatile enough to play catcher, middle infield, and third base in high school, the left-handed hitter settled in as an outfielder in Monroe as a freshman, earning freshman All-America honors after slashing .332/.414/.546 with eight doubles, 10 home runs, and 40 RBI while stealing 18 bases.
Ranked as an early top-100 prospect in the MLB Draft because of his combination of speed and projectable power from the left side, Winfield struggled during his lone season on the Forty Acres. Winfield struggled to make effective adjustments at the plate and pressed at times, rendering him incapable of initially earning consistent playing time at the start of the season and then failing to take advantage of the opportunities created by injuries.
In 24 games, including 19 starts, Winfield slashed .250/.328/.385 with only five extra-base hits in 52 at bats with 23 strikeouts — a strikeout rate of 44.2 percent — and only stole one base.
Winfield did show some promise at the end of April with a 4-for-4 performance against Prairie View A&M with a double, his only home run of the season, two runs, and two RBI.
But it didn’t translate as the Louisiana-Monroe transfer went hitless in his three at bats down the stretch, ultimately finishing the season 1-for-12 in conference play with seven strikeouts.
Texas also lost outfielders Matt Scott, Tommy Farmer, and Will Gasparino to the portal while adding Seton Hall’s Aiden Robbins, Butler’s Jack Moroknek, and Georgia State’s Kaleb Freeman, who can play multiple positions.
