Troy Omeire will miss a third straight game to start the season.
The Texas Longhorns will get a key contributor back against the Rice Owls on Saturday with the return of junior tight end Jared Wiley, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said on Thursday.
Wiley played limited snaps in the season opener against Louisiana and then missed the Arkansas game with a shoulder injury. The hope is that Wiley can help bolster a running game that struggled in Fayetteville and failed to open up holes for sophomore running back Bijan Robinson.
Redshirt freshman Troy Omeire will not be available for a third straight game to start the season as he continues to rehabilitate from his preseason knee injury. It’s a blow to a passing game that hasn’t been able to consistently produce explosive plays downfield as Omeire waits to finally make his debut with the Longhorns.
Another player is out against Rice as well — sophomore cornerback Jahdae Barron, who has received playing time as a backup and is a key special teams contributor.
