FC Dallas picks up their first road win of the 2021 season.

FC Dallas picked up their first road win of the 2021 season as they downed Sporting Kansas City 2-1. The win marks their second in a row and continues a streak of unbeaten play against SKC dating back to 2018.

Homegrown players Jesus Ferreira and Paxton Pomykal scored a goal in each half to help lead the way, while Jimmy Maurer three saves in the victory.

FC Dallas got off on a good footing with a long-distance goal from Pomykal in the 3rd minute of the game. The Homegrown midfielder got on the end of a nice pass in the middle of the park from Ryan Hollingshead and opted to take a 30-yard shot that blasted past Tim Melia.

Sporting pressed for an equalizer but wasn’t able to do so and FC Dallas doubled their lead in the 51st minute on another goal from a Homegrown player as Ferreira took a great ball from Szabolcs Schon at the top of the penalty box and beat Melia at the near post.

The hosts finally made a breakthrough in the 85th minute as Johnny Russel slotted home a cross from Daniel Salloi.

Instant Reaction: Huge win. You simply cannot underscore how big this win could be for the club as they close out a rough month of play with two straight wins for the first time this season. While at times the team looked a tad out of sync, it was smart plays from the Homegrown trip up top that sealed the victory. This group finally looks like they could be turning a corner here on this season too. While they may not pick up a ton of wins away from home this season, they at least know that they can do it and close out tough games like this one (I mean, come on…seven minutes of stoppage time in the second half…that was brutal).

Man of the Match: You can easily make a case for Ferreria or Pomykal here, but I do think this one felt like a total team effort when it came down to closing this one out.

What’s next for FC Dallas: Dallas will kick off another busy month of play next week as they head to Seattle on Wednesday night before hosting Austin FC for the first time next Saturday.
