El Capitan is returning to Houston thanks to the poor showing.
Houston got on the board early in the fifth minute with a goal from Griffin Dorsey on the right side of the penalty box. The Dynamo attacker was wide open on the back post thanks to a cross from Fafa Picault that didn’t get cleared by Ema Twumasi.
Picault scored his third goal of the season against FC Dallas to help double the Houston lead in the 20th minute as Dorsey got a deflected ball in behind the Dallas defense. Dorsey then played the ball across the goal where Picault was able to easily beat Justin Che and score.
The Dynamo added a third in the second half on a penalty kick goal in the 59th minute from Darwin Quintero. Bryan Acosta gave up the foul just minutes after he came into the match off the bench. This was the third time this season that FC Dallas has given up a penalty kick goal to the Dynamo.
Jader Obrian pulled one goal back for Dallas in the 86th minute on a ball from Jesus Ferreira. Obrian was able to beat a defender and then chip the Houston keeper to give Dallas their lone goal of the night.
Obrian doubled his tally in the dying minutes of the game. Eddie Munjoma was able to keep a play alive as Houston had nearly cleared out a corner kick but Obrian was free on the right wing, and he fired a shot at the top of the goal for his fourth goal of the week.
Instant Reaction: Yet another game where the Dallas defense gives up three goals. You can blame it on fatigue from the travel this week but in all honesty, this was a poor outing from start to finish here.
The speed of the defense was exposed again, as was the poor marking in the back on the second goal. You could also say the energy was lacking too but the defensive mistakes continue to mount here.
It is a shame the goals didn’t come until the final minutes though. The urgency was there but it came way too late in this one.
Man of the match: Obrian with the brace as to be it.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The three-game road trip wraps up next weekend as FC Dallas heads to Canada for the first time in 2021 to visit the Vancouver Whitecaps.
