The 2021 season is here. Here is how to stay connected as a fan both near and far.
Well, it’s here, folks.
We’ve endured a strange 2020 with loss and turmoil, and if there is one thing that was certain about 2021, nothing would be certain.
The season was pushed back at least once in response to COVID-19 data, and every city is looking a little different in how it approaches safety protocols.
But soccer is here.
Major League Soccer is prepared to kick off its 26th season.
Are you ready?
Like many fans, the question is – how can we tune in to watch our beloved FC Dallas squad climb to new heights this year? With the pandemic still in full swing, even as vaccines roll out (and I hope you are getting yours as soon as possible), watching our squad from home might be the safest option for you and your family. If you don’t live near the Dallas-Ft Worth area, going to the stadium isn’t a legitimate option anyway.
The good news is that most of the wisdom we have accumulated from past years remains legit to stay connected and plugged in, especially if you are a fan from afar.
Watching FC Dallas Games
Pro-Tip: Get ESPN+. Whether you live in the DFW metroplex or outside of it, ESPN+ is affordable and gives you access to a whole bunch of sports action, including many Major League Soccer games. Blackouts do occur for games in your area, and some games are nationally televised and unavailable. However, it’s like $5/month, and you also can watch Serie A and Bundesigla. Just get it, and think about saving money with the bundle with Disney+ and Hulu as well.
By the way, I am enjoying the new Futbol America show on ESPN to stay up with the best players and action pertaining to North America.
Pro-Tip: If you live in DFW or the FCDallas TV network, many games will be streaming on FC Dallas’ page. It’s a very convenient way to tune in to the games from home. The website does look at your user location to determine your eligibility, called a geo-lock, but there may or may not be ways using browser plugins to trick that check and watch anyway. I can neither confirm nor deny such hacks.
Pro-Tip: Some games are streamed on Twitter from time to time on Univision/Unimas.
Pro-Tip: Barring all of that, FC Dallas games on radio are streamed and may be more workable if you are in a low bandwidth area. More info at FCDallas.com.com/Radio.
Pro-Tip: BigD Soccer is a fun, fan friendly site that lets you submit stories and features the unheralded and golden commentary of people like you and me, bringing our insights and hot takes each and every week. Please consider writing an article and reviewing what it means to be an FC Dallas fan, from the food at the stadium to the quality of play on the field.
Pro-Tip: I also recommend our friends’ work at the Striker Texas. Since we don’t cover Austin or Houston, the Striker can keep you up to date on what the conversations are like across this vast state.
Pro-Tip: Big D After Dark is coming back for another season, our irreverent live show to break down the FC Dallas stories and drama each and every week. We will be streaming to Youtube, Facebook, and Twitch this year and hope to feature some good stuff from player and coach interviews each week in this new season. We take your comments live on air but hope to package it all up as a podcast too.
Look it for this coming Monday at 10 PM EST/9 PM CST.
