A Franco Jara goal late helps keep the unbeaten run alive.
Franco Jara scored a stoppage-time goal to help give FC Dallas a 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday night. The draw pushes their unbeaten run to three games, their best run of the 2021 season so far.
The hosts looked like they were going to end their two-game losing streak at home when Freddy Montero scored in the 72nd minute.
Seattle had dominated the match early on with several chances from Montero and the Roldan brothers. In the 15th minute, Cristian Roldan’s move back to the edge of the penalty was met by Joao Paulo but the midfielder’s effort was too close to Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer who made the save.
Jara came off the bench shortly after the Montero goal in the 76th minute and was able to pounce on a Nkosi Tafari pass that landed in the right spot for the veteran to get on the end of to help preserve the point.
Instant reaction: This is the time that a draw feels like a win. Jara scores a goal out of nothing to get a rare point in Seattle for FC Dallas. If Dallas is going to make a playoff run, it is because of results like this one. They need points away from home and now we’ve seen them get four in the last week after getting nothing for seven games prior to that. Let’s just hope though that Luchi Gonzalez continues to bring Jara off the bench when Ricardo Pepi runs out of gas. This role is perfect for him since he doesn’t really have the wheels to go the full 90 himself.
The big picture in the last week or so for FC Dallas is that they’ve gone 2-0-1 against the top three teams in the West. Keep that up and then find ways to win over the lower teams like Austin this weekend and we’ll be above the playoff line in no time.
Man of the match: In a way, you have to give it to Jara here for the late game-tying goal. On the other hand, you can certainly give it to Maurer who had five big saves in this one to keep it close.
What’s next for FC Dallas: The club returns home for the first of three straight games in Frisco this weekend as they host Austin FC for the first time.
