Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update: Will Lions WR Play Against Cowboys

December 2, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered an ankle injury against the Green Bay Packers that could sideline him for Thursday night’s much-anticipated battle against the Dallas Cowboys. While the Lions themselves are in the midst of their worst season since 2022, St. Brown has remained a reliable part of the passing attack. Entering the Thanksgiving showdown against the team’s biggest rival, St. Brown had recorded 75 receptions for 884 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games. Even with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson in Chicago, he’s still the unquestioned best part of this passing attack.

Unfortunately for the Lions, this injury will likely keep Amon-Ra St. Brown sidelined for Week 14. The wide receiver did not practice on Monday, and while anything can happen between now and Thursday, it’s hard to envision St. Brown being healthy enough to play if he can’t even practice. This also lines up with the initial injury diagnosis, as reporters across the league expected him to miss at least one game with the low-ankle sprain.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update: Lions WR Unlikely to Play Against Cowboys

Losing Amon-Ra St. Brown to injury could be devastating for the Detroit Lions, as Thursday’s contest against the Dallas Cowboys is almost a must-win affair. If the season started today, the team would miss the playoffs despite their 7-5 record. NFL.com currently gives them a 43% chance of making the playoffs, and that number will plummet with a loss to the Cowboys. Speaking of Dallas, they’re currently the unofficial ninth seed with a 6-5-1 record and could leapfrog Detroit with a victory.

After starting the year with an atrocious defense, the Cowboys have stabilized and enter Week 14 on a three-game winning streak. With the Philadelphia Eagles struggling, Dallas still has an outside shot to win the NFC East, but it cannot afford to lose any more games. Look for the Cowboys to bring their ‘A’ game, as both teams need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

With St. Brown presumably sidelined, look for Detroit’s passing attack to run through former first-round pick Jameson Williams. While he and St. Brown are dramatically different players, the Lions clearly view him as a crucial part of the passing attack. Last week in St. Brown’s absence, the wide receiver recorded seven receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown on a season-high 10 targets. While the Lions lost this contest, they wouldn’t have even been in it if Williams hadn’t played as well as he did.
