Another Cowboys Injury Could Lead to Reunion – 3 Teams May Intervene

September 11, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

In wake of losing Daron Bland to an injury, the Dallas Cowboys might be open to setting up a possible reunion this 2025 regular season. According to reports, the Cowboys will probably lose Bland for a couple of weeks with a right foot injury that he suffered in Monday’s practice. If he does plan to miss beyond Week 2 against the New York Giants, it would be a huge blow to the Cowboys’ secondary after just signing him to a blockbuster extension. This isn’t the first time that Bland had an injury this serious, as he wasn’t able to stay healthy for most of the 2024 campaign, so where does this lead about the future of this cornerback room?

This is the biggest question for the Cowboys’ secondary, and they might have to call up an old friend, Stephon Gilmore. Originally selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the former South Carolina product is past his prime days, but he is better than what they have now in their secondary. Despite the team trading for Kaiir Elam, he didn’t look the best out there against Philadelphia’s passing game, so they must address this cornerback issue somehow. Gilmore may no longer be the same athlete that everyone remembers, but when he played for the Cowboys during his 2023 stint, he was one of the best cornerbacks out there, helping Bland and Trevon Diggs develop into ferocious defenders.

Potential Destinations

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are enduring a season of mediocrity when it comes to their cornerbacks. Between Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry, these starting defenders won’t put the Saints in the best position to turn the ball over and give quarterback Spencer Rattler plenty of opportunities to thrive in the passing game. They are in dire need of depth, so they need to at least address the cornerback room with some type of upgrade. Despite the team signing Justin Reid, they have to get a new solid corner to replicate his success.

Gilmore is looking to join a contender, but if he’s still sitting on the couch, he might take on a one-year deal with the Saints to see what he could do to help them.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the deepest cornerback rooms in the league. After Jaire Alexander and Chidobe Awuzie, the team was supposed to have a talented secondary unit, but after their loss to the Bills, there is some work to be done. Gilmore is arguably the better cornerback over Awuzie, and if they need additional help right before the playoffs, they should bring him in.

Kansas City Chiefs

However, the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the most talented cornerbacks, too, but they must address the depth issue here. Nazeeh Johnson, Deon Bush and Eric Scott Jr. are all on IR, so there is room for Gilmore if the Chiefs want to sign him to be a part of this starting squad. It could give him another chance for a Super Bowl run.
